Inspired by a serviced apartment group who have a large presence in the London Bridge area, we thought we would take a look at the area in a bit more detail. It really is one of the most accessible and vibrant areas of central London in which to stay.

There is now a fantastic selection of serviced apartments in London Bridge and Tower Bridge. The South side of the River Thames in this area has seen huge regeneration and investment, particularly since the Jubilee line extension opened in 1999. This connected London Bridge and Southwark to the West End and central London, and also to Canary Wharf, which was in the process of establishing itself as a major business hub. At the time, around 20,000 people worked in Canary Wharf, now that figure is approximately 95,000.

The further economic benefits of the new public transport infrastructure to the local area have been in evidence ever since, with the location itself effectively moving further in to central London, with extensive development in the area, and further South (as far as Elephant and Castle).

Central London now being so accessible for London's workforce, the area was attractive as a City fringe location where prices remained competitive. This saw major investment, firstly by residential developers, and also with commercial developments. None demonstrate the area's new economic prowess better than the river side office and retail development, More London, who's tenants include the likes on Norton Rose, Ernst and Young and PWC, and of course the iconic City Hall, home of the Greater London Authority.

The Hilton hotel on the More London complex which opened in 2006, further indicated the new demand for, primarily, business travel accommodation in the area, although it is of course a very popular leisure destination. And it is popular as a leisure and holiday destination as there is plenty to do there.....

Some of the areas popular attractions include Tower Bridge, the London Dungeon, HMS Belfast, and the famous Borough Market. For a bite to eat, all manner of British and International cuisine is available in nearby Shad Thames, Butlers Wharf, Borough market and further along the Southbank. If you want to treat yourself, Le Pont de la Tour and the OXO Tower are both within a short distance.

With all of the benefits mentioned above, it is no wonder that serviced apartments in London Bridge and Tower Bridge are now the preferred choice for many business and leisure travellers.
