Westfield Stratford opened its doors yesterday to a throng of excited shoppers, some of whom had queued from 6am to be the first through the door. The centre is really the first tangible evidence of the economic benefits of the Olympic Games being brought to London in 2012, and will also be one of the Games' great legacies.
Prior to Westfield Stratford opening it's doors for business, the site had employed nearly 21,000 people, according to Westfield's official website. By the time it opened, this number was estimated to reach 27,000. Work on the construction started in 2008, so many workers have had to move to the area (30% of workers were resident in East London) whilst the development took place.
As well as the wider economic benefits this workforce brought to the local area and London as a whole, Serviced Apartments in Canary Wharf and other areas of Central and East London will certainly have benefited. For those looking to stay in the area, take a look at these fantastic serviced apartments in Stratford.
During 2012 and beyond, together with the Olympic Park, Westfield Stratford is sure to bring many new tourists to the area, leaving a legacy and future benefits to the serviced apartment industry.
