When it comes to Christmas time, you can’t get more festive than London. The comfort of warming mulled wine, festive treats and delicious hearty meals makes us forget about the frosty temperatures outside. But, what we really love about Christmas in London, is the twinkling lights and glittering decorations. You only need to take a stroll down the infamous Oxford Street to get that fairy tale Christmas feeling. Being lucky enough to be in this fabulous city at Christmas means there are so many things to do! But, where do you start? We’re here to tell you. Here are our top three things to do in London at Christmas time:
1. Ice Skating Rinks
Our favourite Christmas themed ice skating rink is at our beloved Canary Wharf. Located at Canada Square Park, this year's theme is 'LuminoCity', just in case you thought London wasn’t lit up enough at Christmas! LED lights will be sparkling from under the ice, covering skaters in an array of different colours - there's over 16 million... now that's a lot of colour! The bar will be serving festive drinks, and there will be a heated outdoor terrace for those that aren’t so game to brave the ice!
2. Winter Wonderland
Located in the heart of London, you can't get more festive than Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland! Celebrating ten years of festivities, this year is bound to be one to remember. Enjoy everything the event has to offer, from the Magical Ice Kingdom and The Nutcracker On Ice, to a bar sculpted out of ice... you’d better wrap up warm! There’s rides and games (both for kids and adults, of course) including roller coasters and funfairs, and the kids can visit Santa in his grotto! We all love a Christmas market, of which there are many at this renowned Hyde Park festive event – you can browse for gifts, decorations and culinary delights. Also, for those who are always after the food and drink, you can enjoy an array of different eateries and bars, from the Bavarian Village to the Fire Pit, where you can enjoy a drink, warming up around a large fire pit, and enjoy nightly live music.
3. Christmas Lights
As far as Christmas lights go, you can’t beat the display on Oxford Street. For the 57th year in a row, the street is lit up with snowball-like decorations and, you guessed it… a huge amount of lighting (over 750,000 LED lightbulbs to be exact)! Walking down Oxford Street over the festive period on cold winter nights is the epitome of Christmas; there’s just nothing quite like it!
